Interested in living at Martha Cook?
The building is centrally located on campus and houses 145 female identifying students, ranging from first year to graduate students. The smaller setting and quiet environment appeals to a variety of students who find the Martha Cook Building (MCB) a place to make friends, where they can focus, and relax while attending U-M. There is a culture of activities and events among the residents.
The Martha Cook room & board contract has its own meal plan that is different from the meal plan of the other residence halls:
Only Martha Cook residents have access to the Martha Cook dining room.
The Martha Cook meal plan provides continental breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday - Friday in the Martha Cook dining room. (The Martha Cook meal plan does not include access to other dining halls Monday-Friday. You may purchase meals in other dining halls.)
The Martha Cook dining hall is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), Martha Cook residents receive (4) meal swipes to use in any combination on Saturday and Sunday to eat their weekend meals in other open dining halls.
The Martha Cook dining hall hours, like other small campus dining halls, are reduced around major holidays and the beginning and end of the terms. Martha Cook residents are provided meal swipes for other open dining halls during these times.
Martha Cook residents can have occasional guests for meals.
In addition to the Community Living at Michigan Standards all residents of the building are required to:
participate in one hour of tea service per term (help with Martha Cook’s iconic Friday Teas).
attend a one hour all-house meeting at the beginning of each term.
The Martha Cook rooms share a sink with one or two other rooms, and the showers and toilets are located in communal bathrooms on the residential floors.
The Martha Cook Building rates for room & board for the current year (2024-2025) can be found online here.
