General Requirements
- Former Martha Cook resident or "close" ties to Martha Cook
- Knowledgeable about Martha Cook history and current activities
- Desire to give back to Martha Cook
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to solve problems
- Respond to and participate in Martha Cook governor issues in a timely fashion
- Ability to devote approximately 10 hours per month to Martha Cook “business”
- Attend a majority of Board meetings in person
- Attend at least half of designated building functions (listed under duties)
Duties
- Attend monthly board meetings
- Read and respond in a timely way to emailed minutes and other documents
- Review monthly MCB reports
- Attend half Martha Cook functions:
- Fall Resident Welcome
- Messiah Dinner
- Spring Tea
- Holiday Brunch
- A Friday Tea
- A MCAA Board Meeting (Sunday afternoon/one per month)
- Take on some specific Martha Cook projects or “jobs”, for example
- Record minutes and post to Google Docs
- Participate in fundraising
- Participate in and/or head the Scholarship Committee
- Support Resident Director with various current needs, such as staffing, facility issues, difficult resident concerns, etc.
- Attend U-M meetings as they relate to Martha Cook issues, as needed.
- Act as liaison between Martha Cook and University Housing if necessary.
- Evaluate and review Resident Director’s performance
- Run Residents’ satisfaction survey
- Attend some MCAA (Martha Cook Alumnae Association) meetings
Desirable skills
- Working knowledge of U-M administrative procedures
- Ability to take on a leadership role
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to work remotely (even if close enough to attend meetings)
Chair responsibilities
- Assisting the board in naming new governor(s)
- Coordinating Board meetings/agenda
- Assure that all Board activities are assigned as necessary (such as the scholarship process, website development, fundraising, etc.) and completed as directed by the Board
