Gap Scholarship Comes of Age

February 2016, I donated money to create a Gap Room and Board Scholarship to cover the difference in cost between a Martha Cook standard double room and a comparable room in other residence halls; $1300 per student for two semesters. The idea was prompted by a casual remark by a non-Cookie friend at our 50th U-M reunion. She had been a full scholarship winner at the University, but lacked the extra money needed for Martha Cook. I wondered whether there were young women now who would benefit from additional financial aid in their first year at MCB.

That first gift was followed last year with another one… and so far, more than 20 young women have been able to enjoy life at Martha Cook as a result. It has been a pleasure getting to know them. Recently, a 2016 recipient, Cheyenne Travioli, was one of seven U-M students named Student of the Year. You can read about Cheyenne’s story at https://www.michigandaily.com/section/statement/student-year-cheyenne-travioli (Cheyenne is also a recipient this year of an Anne E. Shipman Stevens award.)

As applications for aid come in for the 2018-2019 academic year, I invite you to join in the fun of providing for the incoming class. The fund is called “MCB Gap Scholarship” and the number is 327282. Thanks for your help!
