Community Center Engagement (the front desk!)

Residents' strong food opinions!

In our lobby there is a white board managed by the Community Center. It has been used for at least the last four years to encourage community development and conversation amongst residents.

This is my third year managing the board, as it had been managed by a member of restaff prior. I noticed that the year after they graduated the board was no longer being upkept, so I took on the duty, and continued the practice of posting a new question each week for residents and guests to respond to. Residents are allowed to write their response on the whiteboard and interact with other responses on the board. The question can be as simple as 'What is your favorite movie?' or as unique as 'What is your most useless skill?', and each will receive the same flood of responses. A photo is taken of each board before everything is erased for the next question to record the history of the board. Even though responses slowly accumulate on the board over the course of the week, many residents stop to read the new responses when returning from class and express their joy when they see a new question has been posted.
